Yes, yes, yes! At last a truly creative collection! January 3, 2008 I've looked at so many of the new generation of lace knitting books that turned out to be disappointments that I braced myself when this one arrived. I was pleasantly surprised! The designs, for the most part, are lovely, elegant, and sophisticated! There are a few cute, simple designs that will no doubt appeal to young and/or beginning knitters but there is sufficient material here for us old knitting war horses to be thrilled too. I loved the Lily of the Valley Stole. There are some very cute and interesting socks, the sweater featured on the cover is very nice and teaches an interesting technique for the shaping and there are even a couple of innovative lace designs I never saw in Barbara Walker.
I honestly think there is something here for every knitter --- some cute simple things like the lacy cuffs for beginners and some very sophisticated and unique projects for the more advanced. Even the detail work on some of the designs are interesting. I'm happy to be able to add this to my permanent collection!
Drop dead gorgeous book with realistic projects! October 28, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a long time knitter who is exploring lace for the first time, I scoured every available book, magazine, and on-line resource to inspire me. Interweave Press's "Lace Style" was the book that haunted me until I had to purchase it! This is one of the most beautiful collections of knitted garments and accessories in knit-book history. Learn with a tiny beaded bracelet, then work up to an entire lace shawl. All ages, all levels of knitters will appreciate this thoughtful, elegant presentation. A classic!
Beautiful, sophisticated lace designs September 26, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book includes lace designs in such a range of difficulties and styles that everyone is sure to find something that catches their fancy. While I have not yet knit any of the patterns, they appear to be well-written and easy to follow. Can't wait to cast on from this book.
Lace Style September 21, 2007 There are some absoutely beautiful patterns in this book, there is one in particular that I am looking forward to making.
Sizing variations noticeably change pattern September 4, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Very nice book, most of the designs are lovely. However, I'm the type of knitter who wants a chart for every lace pattern, no matter how simple. Not every pattern has a chart.
I'm currently working on the Tailored Scallops jacket on the cover, and the pattern implementation of the size I chose makes the jacket look much different than what is photographed. Because the feather & fan stitch is a fairly big pattern, this is somewhat reasonable, but I'm going to frog what I have and rework the pattern myself. This is disappointing to me, since my size is the medium one (I'm a 10/12), and you'd think the pattern likely to be used most would be written to show off the stitches. As it is, the dense part of the pattern dominates the lacy part. Fixing it will require more complicated instructions, not of the type where you can change the number of stitches and repeats with parentheses (e.g., repeat 2(2,3,3,4) times). Really putting the extra effort into patterning for each size would make this a 5-star book.
