Superstar book! January 7, 2007 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a beautiful book, more than a useful book. I haven't made anything from it yet, and I don't know whether the patterns are faulty or unclear -- but the photographs sure are gorgeous!! Some of the patterns I am sure I will never make (like some of the hats, specifically), but the inspiration is wonderful! It makes me eager for the holiday season.

Very inspiring. The beautiful photography and selection of projects makes the reader feel all are possible.
Holiday Knitting Looks Enticing November 5, 2006 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I loved browsing through this book and planning my holiday gift knitting. I wish I had bought it in the summer so I would have had more time to make some of the lovely projects in the book. Lots of great ideas...some easy...some challenging. J.M.
Don't overlook this book--it's more than "holiday" knitting! April 18, 2006 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
It's almost a shame this book was organized around the "holiday" knitting theme. I didn't even look at this book for months because I assumed it was limited to Christmas stockings and tree skirts. Of course, there ARE a couple of Christmas stockings and tree skirts, but there is so much more.
There are ambitious projects, such as a beautiful fair isle sweater, and quick projects, such as the thick cabled "Log Cabin Socks". There are great bags, like the lacy "Counterpane", along with sweaters, hats, mittens, and, oh, yeah, holiday decorations. I have knitted a couple of items from this book for gifts (the flip-top mittens are a great gift, for example), but of the 6 items I've finished so far, 4 were for me!
The over-the-knee stockings are next on my to-do list from this great book.
Simply inspiring! Not just for the holidays, either! March 31, 2006 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I had seen this book before the holidays, but didn't buy it to avoid any unneeded pressure to do too much knitted gift-giving. I'm glad I realized my own weakness, else I would have worked myself to the bone! Melanie has done it again! Wonderful ideas and fabulous photos and beautiful embellishments. I am ready for winter - actually, year round gift giving! This selection of patterns is elegant and gracious (nothing trite or boring here). There is much more to this book than just holidays - the patterns are classic and adaptable for all 365 days... and there is something for all skill levels, too. While I hope to graduate to the more complicated projects (some day), I am happy with the simpler patterns and pure inspiration. I am going to my LYS to pick up new threads for the flowers patterns!
