NOT tbe best t-shirt alteration book out there! July 28, 2006 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
99 Ways to Cut, Sew, Trim, and Tie Your T-Shirt Into Something Special is DEFINITELY better than Generation T! While there are a couple of cute designs in Generation T, it is mostly just outlandish stuff that is a LOT more clownish than classy. Also, it is too cluttered of a book - too many sidebars, insert boxes, too much text. 99 Ways is very to the point, giving the patterns and being done with it. Nice. Invest your money in 99 Ways before you get Generation T.
Real t-shirt wearing women have curves (just not in this book) July 21, 2006 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I just got this neat little book yesterday and already have plans to slash up some of my old t-shirts this weekend! The book is broken up into several sections, including blouses/t-shirt alterations, crop tops, skirts, accessories, and a whole section on what to do with leftover t-shirt material. I enjoyed most of the ideas in the book, but agree with the reviewer who noted that a number of the designs would only work on very skinny people. All of the models are twig thin boyfigured late teens and early twenty somethings, which isn't so much a criticism on the part of the book as much as a reflection of the target audience perhaps. I wish that there had been more diversity in patterns meant for larger women and more ideas for guys (not just the one "punk" t-shirt that I found!). Perhaps the author could incorporate this into a future book, along with including some ideas that involve using a sewing machine/serger, using other non t-shirt fabrics/trim and basic screenprinting for a true do-it-yourself t-shirt makeover.
great if ur a DIY-er and dont get offended when reading what a needle is July 11, 2006 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
i saw the book in a magazine and liked the description and the excerp they had showing u how to make the "Brokenhearted" t-shirt. when i got it i found out it transformed tees not only into new outfits, but also into arm warmers, pillows, handbags, even rugs! i liked the fact that it wasnt strictly new shirts/tops/bottoms...nice.
i wasnt reall enthused when i saw lots of outfits were somewhat the same...i wouldve liked a bit more variation like showing a couple "goth" outfits (dont know y, but im drawn to them), making a fancy top for formal parties, etc. lots of the projects were geared for summer too, and unless ur like layering clothes on top of each other, u cant get much use out of them come winter.
some r just way too revealing for most women to consider wearing too...who would wear just a bandeau? its nothing but a 6" piece of cloth wrapping around ur chest! no way in heck i would wear it... needless to say, you could always put another shirt or tank under the new one, or fix it so its not as revealing, but other than that, there r a decent handful that i dont think will ever make it into my arsenal.
i also thought the word "punk" was used wwwwaaaaaayyyyyy too much...it was seen at least once on every...single...page...it got old real quick.
all in all, a great book if ur thinking about doing something different for ur wardrobe, and it also acts as an inspirational source/guide for ur own unique ideas...im already designing new outfits that will catch attention *wink*...tasteful, though.
see ya..

This book gave great ideas for different t-shirts and skirts. Most of them were no sew versions so even artistically challenged shirt designers could make them. Another good thing about this book is you can combine ideas. I made a really cool back design with another heart design on the front. Personally i think you get more than 108 things to do because it gives you more similar ideas. The only thing a didn't like about this book was that there were limited colored pictures of the shirts.
