Topping my list of favorite applique books April 10, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is like receiving a pack of letters and amazing photos from an old friend who loves to have new experiences through travel and research, and wants to share it all with you. Suzanne includes tips throughout, and well-documented instructions for her own applique and quilting techniques. As in her first book, we see comments from her husband and quilt show judges. All that is very good, but not why I love this book. Suzanne makes quilts in response to her travels and interests, such as architecture, insects, or ancient textiles. She takes the time to learn about her subject, then reinterprets the imagery and information she's gathered into unique applique designs. She shows us there is no particular mystery to her process, yet her finished quilts are magical. If you want your applique quilts to be more connected to you and your life, let this book be your field guide. Are you ready for an Adventure & Applique?
An Exquisite Applique Book! April 1, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Adventure & Applique is a must read for anyone who enjoys applique or who would like to learn about it. It is a fun, interesting and informative read with tons of helpful hints to improve applique skills. Seeing the photographs of her work, it is easy to see why Suzanne Marshall is one of the 30 best quilters in the world. Her work is maginificent and it is so wonderful and inspiring to be able to see the detail up close. I am sure that I will reference this book forever!
A delightful visit with an amazing quilter April 1, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
There are lots of pattern books available; this particular book is a wonderful, personal visit with a self-taught applique artist who's won awards at every major quilt show in the US . . . many more than once. Suzanne's charm and creativity are evident throughout the book, and the closeups of her work are inspirational. Despite a few editing glitches, this book inspires, entertains, and teaches the reader to look more closely at things around him/her.
Great Book March 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this to be one of the most inspiring books for quilting that I have read in a long time. The pictures and the ideas for sources to create quilts are very inspirational and informative. I have read each section one at a time go gain insight into how she puts all her ideas together and then creates her quilts. I learned a great deal.
A Classic Compendium March 31, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Suzanne's newest book "Adventure & Applique" is a joy to own.
Being a quilting artist myself I can appreciate the great depth, care, and skill she navigates the reader through her quilts and the places which inspire them.
Very inspiring for the creative soul. The colors she imparts in her work breathe with a passion that is timeless. Not merely a good instructional book but one of great art.
On my coffee table are three books: The Complete Murals of Michelangelo, Pablo Picasso, and at the top is Suzanne's Adventure & Applique. I am amply fed by all three.
