5 out of 5 stars Tradition with a Twist   January 15, 2007

This is a great book that includes the Blooming Nine Patch that many have seen popping up recently. There are several very inspiring quilts in here that are not difficult to piece. Great instructions that include even the orientation of pieces to minimize problems with bias edges. I've already done the Blooming Nine Patch and plan to make a few more as the possibilities are endless. This is one book you will definately use and not just look at and enjoy

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful patterns   August 31, 2005

The book cover doesn't represent the quilts inside. It's too bad a person can't look inside this book or else it would sell more copies. I'm not fond of making half-square triangles but still want to make beautiful quilts. This book has all squares with dramatic effects. Absolutely beautiful designs.

5 out of 5 stars The best quilting book I own   June 1, 2003

I am a novice quilter with minimal skills and a love of color. This book allows me to get the type of result I can see in my mind but don't really have the skill to put together on my own. I've made the Bloomin' Nine Patch, and seen three others, and all are striking. I'm now doing the Double Irish Chain, and have plans for two others from this book. I recommend it to other novices, as it is clear and specific, and the quilts are very impressive.

3 out of 5 stars Creative quilting   July 31, 2001

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the patterns in this book. I love the Bloomin' Ninepatch. It is my favorite pattern in the book. The possibilities for today's quilter to experiment with fabric on this quilt are incredible. The directions are clear and precise.

My only problem with this book, and the reason I gave it three stars, is due to the fact that the writers/quilters cut the fabric requirements soooo close that a simple miswhack could result in not having enough fabric to finish your quilt. I have been qulting for 20 years and I had to piece a 4 1/2 inch square, I ran so close. The frugal quilter should have not problems, but the novice or creative quilter should buy a little more of each fabric that is called for just to be sure to have enough,, especially if you are using fabric that does not measure full 45 inch width.

The quilts are beautiful and definitely worth making. They inspired me to think beyond colors I normally use. The book is definitely one I will keep and use again and again.

This book makes the quilts that look hard to make very easy. It has step by step instructions on several different quilts. Just rotary cut, sew strips together, cut again and sew. Five strips make a quilt. What could be easier than this?
