Beautiful, Just Beautiful August 22, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love this book - with Katherine's instructions, it was very easy for me to learn how to make beautiful crewel artwork. (disclaimer: I already knew how to cross stitch which may have helped.)
The patterns are fresh & kind of funky with a few classic beauties thrown in for good measure.
Phenomenol Book! August 2, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I LOVE THIS BOOK! It's full of fabulously funky projects, great color suggestions, and very simple instructions and patterns. I have already purchased this book as a gift for others. I would highly recommend it.
A Rave Review June 29, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can't say enough wonderful things about this book. The designs are so graphically beautiful and modern; the up close photographs are clear and wonderful; the instructions are very good and the projects are useful and creative.
Amazing! April 16, 2007 This book is great! As others have said, I have a lot of problems finding modern patterns, but I still love needlepoint and embroidery. I've never tried crewelwork for the simple reason that I had NEVER found a book (thinking none existed) that offered ideas for modern, funky ideas. This one solves all my reservations! I'm so excited! Between simply making the samplers, the greeting cards, and the lampshade idea, I don't know if I'll be able to put this book down!!!
Style and variety of stitches are problematic March 14, 2007 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Great fun to look at. Stretched my imagination. However not one project is anything I'd like to make or adapt.
Additionally, the "satin stitch" is greatly overused and the styles are a bit distasteful to *me*. Doesn't mean they wouldn't be interesting to others!
I'm keeping it.....I have a library of craft and creative inspiration books from which my three teen-grandgirls borrow often for their projects and their crafts and I'm going to be interested to see if any of them use or adapt anything from _The New Crewel_.
