amountaineering;/THE FREEDOM OF THE HILLS March 22, 2007 This is a staple text for training for mountain, snow country travel and activities. It touches on many important topics. There can only be so much room dedicated to any one topic, so it does lack depth on some subjects. It is an excellent starting point for mountianeering skills.
A good read before any course or hands on training.
A wonderful reference of climbing knowledge March 19, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A wonderful reference book. If you are interested in mountaineering and rock climbing, this book is a wonderful start or a great way to expand your knowledge. From basics like how to layer clothes, to must-knows like how to tie a clove hitch and a rewoven figure eight, to more advanced topics like proper anchor placement and finger placement on a crimp hold, this book covers most of the skills needed for climbing. As any good reference, it is well organized and easy to find the information you need. If you are a beginner looking for information or a pro who wants to supplement your knowledge or solidify your base of skills, this is a fantastic book.
Simply the best March 12, 2007 most complete, accurate and well presented source of climbing information out there. There is no reason to buy any other book.
Excellent Book a complete guide for climbing and mountaineering March 8, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was looking for mountaneering books and this one is the most complete that exists. Has everything that you would need. I wanted to bought two or three books, but I don't need more than this book.
great wealth of information January 10, 2007 I don't have a lot of camping experience, and i have no mountaineering experience. I just started to get into mountaineering through a intro to gym climbing. It seems to be a lot of good information for me to get started with, but it is a little overwhelming seeing how big the book is. This book seems like a text for nountaineering.
