5 out of 5 stars Obama as an Author   November 10, 2008

The guy not only speaks well -
he can write, too !!

This is a very engaging, readable book. Most of what he says makes sense, whether or not you agree with him.

Unfortunately there is no there there. There are thoughts that don't lead to actual solutions, and platitudes that tickle but don't equal substantive change.

4 out of 5 stars Being Barack Obama   November 8, 2008

I first read his previous book: Dreams from my Father which makes for a fascinating read. The Audacity of Hope is also a great read, and it's the best way to understand Barack Obama's values and really go inside his head. It feels like having a conversation with the man himself. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Inspiring and readable   November 8, 2008

I did read the book, and recommend it highly. One of the post-election-day negative reviewers brags about not reading it and several others seem to say if it has anything to do with Barack Obama they hate it.

It's hard to see how a fair-minded person could read this book and be virulently opposed. Maybe suggestions of being naive or not likely to deliver on ideas could be defended, although they're not very helpful.

I'm troubled that Amazon's reader reviews seem to be so easily used to spew latent (or not-so-latent) racist garbage.

1 out of 5 stars Terrorists Unite   November 8, 2008

I will say right now I did not read this book. Why? I followed the presidential race very closely, and the "man" has nothing to say. One of his best friends tried to blow up the Pentagon, and stomps on the American flag. His preacher is the biggest racist in the country. His dad was an alcoholic polygamist. Nobody even knows how many brothers and sisters Obama has. And we are not sure how many wives his father had. No matter, he killed himself in a drunk driving accident after he had already been in a previous one, that forced his legs to be removed. Of course we cannot forget how many times he reminded us he was black. He played the race card more than OJ. His Marxist views seem to go unnoticed by the country. But as soon as the largest tax increase in the history of the world gets approved, it will be too late. I could go on, but the loser is not worth my time.
