negative posters November 7, 2008 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
Notice the people that are leaving negative comments are the ones bringing up racial issues and name calling? Yet I dont recall once where Obama has ever really brought up race except to say in equality. Even when he mentioned Martin Luther King, he referred to him as "a preacher from Georgia". Not a black man, or a white man, an American. Do yourself a favor and actually read his book or actually listen to his speeches, esp "A more perfect union". He truly is trying to turn the page and move forward together, hence the title.

Before you get too excited.... November 6, 2008 5 out of 62 found this review helpful
Remember, HE wrote this book, so he can make himself look as good as he wants. I think he is a classic narcissist, who in both of his books only talks about what he DIDN'T have , which was still a lot more that a lot of the rest of us did have. And before everyone decides he is the answer to everything that is wrong in this country, keep in mind...he has done nothing but talk so far. Reserve judgement until this time next year.
Human redemption? November 6, 2008 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
Barack Obama's Audacity of Hope is written in a passionate fashion but with a sound knowledge of America's history, politics, and culture. The author lays bare the true face of the contemporary American polity and dares to put forth his ideas on how to overcome the problems plaguing it. That way, he is bold and the name of the book is fully justified. It typifies the common man's psyche and hence resonates with their emotional-ethical responses to every problem ranging from family, health care, environmenta to energy issues. In a word he stands for the contemporary era yet he has one foot on the boat conservatism and another on liberalism.
He is passionately concerned with the well being of the common man which is obvious if one considers his pedigree. But the socialistic ideas expressed in his book is simply audacious in the citadel of capitalism, the United States. Nonetheless, such an approach is to be encouraged because of his clarity and candidness.
The American psyche and its values propounded by its founding fathers fires Obama's imagination and even in his recent victory speech in Chicago he lauded these values and endorsed his clarion call for redeeming those American values. My book 'Tracing the Eagle's Orbit' (coming from the pen of a non-Western writer for the first time) also puts forth these American ideals with perfect clarity and as a concise and first hand guide to those interested in perceiving the true face of America.
Audacity of Hope has indeed a promise for both the contemporary and the posterity. It could provide the real stepping stones to rid the imperfections of democracy. But how does one answer the age-old question: where the flag bearers of idealism, i.e., the communists and socialists failed, could Barack Obama be sure of his views as put forth in this book? Even Abraham Lincoln conceded that he could not control his political surroundings.

From the Outside Looking In November 6, 2008 8 out of 40 found this review helpful
There is no doubt that Barack Obama is a captivating figure, someone who now offers our planet a chance for real change. In his book The Audacity of Hope however, Obama comes across as a conformist, playing it safe on the core issues and unwilling to address the real problems: how and why the United States of Amercia is in its current predicament. Obama presents arguments for change which from an economic and finanicial standpoint are unrealistic and in the end offer no real long term solutions. I initially approached the text to find out who Obama is and what he stands for. I wanted to know what makes him human: what angers him, what dissapoints him and where his principals lay. I was also surprised by his apparent love and respect for the repubulicans and the outgoing President George W. Bush. What happened to daring leadership? The individual with the courage to speak their mind no matter the consequences? I could not express anything other than disappointment. The book was hollow and nothing more than an extended propaganda piece carefully calculated to offend no-one and appeal to everyone. I didn't find what I was looking for and rather than feel inspired for change with a figure to be proud of, I was left empty.
